While in the last 50 years, yoga has been associated with asana practice (postures), yoga is much more than asana practice and certainly not any "woo-woo" looking practice. In Chapters 2,3 and 6 of the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan Shri Krishna clearly enumerates who a Yogi is and what the characteristics of a yogi are, that others can aspire toward. In this second workshop series at CYC, we will start by studying one of one of the most beautiful portions of the Bhagavad Gita called "Stitha Prajna Lakshanani" (स्थितप्रज्ञ लक्षणानि), the characteristics or signs of a person of steady wisdom. We will see various definitions of Yoga in the 2nd chapter as well as Karma Yoga (the yoga of action) in the 3rd chapter. Then we will study the heart of Yoga, the quintessential portion on meditation in chapter 6 of the Bhagavad Gita , titled Dhyana Yoga or the yoga of meditation. In the last part of this chapter, Bhagavan tells Arjuna that a Yogi's practice carries over across lifetimes. Bhagavan portrays a Yogi as a rockstar of not just all spiritual aspirants, but even greater than people performing renowned actions.
