The entire goal of Yoga is to attain mental stillness to understand who the real "I" is. Is "I" the body, the mind or some other entity ?
In this 4 class series, we will study the portions of the Bhagavad Gita where Krishna delineates the true nature of the self, called the Ātma, and explains to the prince, Arjuna, the distinction of this Ātma from the mind-body complex. Understanding the true nature of oneself sets one free of constraining limitations of the body and mind, resulting in everlasting peace of mind, according to Lord Krishna.
The class (on-line and in-person) will be interactive with plenty of chanting of the beautiful shlokas in their respective meters (tunes) and with word by word meaning of the sanskrit verses and by tying the verses to the big picture meaning of what Lord Krishna is trying to convey. Stories from the Mahabharata will also be sprinkled across the presentation. Electronic slides, recordings and reference material will be available to the participants.
The Bhagavad Gita is considered to be one of the most sacred books in Hinduism and is revered as a Yoga Shastra, an authoritative scripture on Yoga.
